Synchronous Data & Video
Storing Data and Video Signals
SDVD tools can store hours of data and video signals on a hard disk. We use a gunlock to realize synchronisation between NI-DAQ and frame-grabber boards. A timestamp is added to each image and various coding and decoding standards (CODECs) for compression of video (MJPEG, MPEG4) compress the video stream.
We can keep, adjust and store the information on a CD or other storage medium with SDVD tools supplied in addition. The SDVD tools are convenient for rehabilitation studies, modelling and sleep lab applications.
In 2000, a surgeon asked CIT Engineering to design a complete and flexible PC-based video recorder to perform surgery. The system that was realized allowed the surgeon to easily and rapidly select time slots for references or training. The system directly writes the selected time frames to CD or DVD so that a standard PC can read the images. The system is able to put additional information, such as timing and identification, in each video frame. The quality of the images pulled from the system is sufficient for further use.
The cameras that are used during the surgery, under microscope, deliver complete Phase Alternating Lines (PAL) (or other video signals’ standards) quality. The system constitutes frames true colour images of 768x576 pixels per second. Without compression, this is about 32MB or 20 minutes on a 60GB hard disk with Redundant Arrays of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) controller. We also designed a system that treats data and video in the same way.
